The Hepworth Wakefield Ceramics Fair returns this summer

26 Apr 2024

The Hepworth Wakefield is championing ceramic art and artists this June with the return of its popular Ceramics Fair. The event will take place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June at Tileyard North, the refurbished mill opposite the gallery.

Visitors will be able to buy work directly from 60 emerging and established ceramicists and potters working in both contemporary and traditional ceramics. On sale will be everything from homeware and jewellery to unique sculptural pieces, with a range of price points and styles to suit all tastes.

This year’s event will welcome new and previous stallholders including Wakefield-based makers Hannah Way, who makes 70s inspired homeware, and Colin Jowitt who creates intricate earthenware pieces; Newcastle-based maker, Alex Sickling, who provides a contemporary twist on Staffordshire pottery and Victorian-era figurines; Eren Armitage from Harrogate who creates homeware inspired by her Japanese heritage and her love for the English countryside; and Qi Fang Colbert Arts whose illustrative ceramics are inspired by Taoism and Eastern storytelling.

Across the weekend, families can create their own pots in the Clay Studio drop-in workshop and with activities in the exhibition spaces and garden, budding artists are guaranteed to be kept busy. Family activities are free for Wakefield district residents and under 18s, or free with an exhibition ticket which are half price all weekend.

Visitors can also enjoy brunch, lunch or a slice of cake and a coffee in The Hepworth Wakefield café, street food in The Hepworth Wakefield Garden, bring a picnic to enjoy in the sunshine or visit the Yorkshire Brasserie and The Distillery bar in Tileyard North.

During the Print Fair weekend, exhibition tickets are half price so that visitors can experience all that The Hepworth Wakefield has to offer this spring including Ronald Moody: Sculpting Life – ‘one of the most eagerly awaited shows of the year’ (Observer).
