Exhibitions policy

Exhibitions at The Hepworth Wakefield are scheduled at least two years in advance, concentrating on solo and group shows of artists based in Britain and abroad.

In keeping with its position as a publicly funded gallery and Plus Tate partner, The Hepworth Wakefield sets rigorous standards for evaluating ideas for the artistic programme.

The curatorial staff at the gallery undertake ongoing research into contemporary and art historical practice, leading to artists and curators being invited to develop projects with the gallery.

Exhibitions are produced in collaboration with other major organisations in Britain and abroad, and contribute significantly to raising the national and international profile of Wakefield and Yorkshire.

The majority of exhibitions result from direct invitations to artists, curators and institutions. However, artists and curators who feel their proposal is well positioned to help fulfil The Hepworth Wakefield’s aims and ambitions should send details to hello@hepworthwakefield.org with the subject line ‘Exhibition Proposal FAO Curatorial Team’ comprising:

  • A selection of 5–15 images, or any other documentation of the artwork, clearly labelled with the size and medium. Please do not send original artwork as The Hepworth Wakefield cannot be held responsible for work that goes astray.
  • A short statement about your work or project proposal, and proposed timeline.
  • A CV and some background information about yourself, such as your training and experience.

Please note that The Hepworth Wakefield cannot acknowledge the receipt of proposals and will only contact artists after the work has been considered and a decision has been reached.
