Create Paintings inspired by Tissot's paintings with artist Neil Grinshill.
THEMES/FOCUS: Emphasis will be on exploring the portrayal of Victorian women and femininity, contrasting Tissot’s costume pieces and morality tales. Participants will also reflect upon the coal mining connection, through the original owner of the Tissot painting, who was a Lancashire Industrialist who made his fortune through coal.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?: The session will focus on drawing and painting techniques using acrylic paints and supports using the Tissot exhibition to draw inspiration from.The participants will focus on observational drawing / painting skills, and be encouraged to mix mediums to introduce a whole new facet to their preliminary work. The success of mixing media together will be thoroughly explored and discussed to gain its best advantage when transferring these techniques into the final painting.
LEVEL: Beginners – Improvers – Advanced.
THINGS TO CONSIDER: Be prepared to experiment with mixing mediums / painting and drawing techniques. Also preparing a good surface to draw / paint on- using gouache and gesso mediums.
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU: (Drawing / Painting Box Optional) All materials and paints supplied.
AT THE END OF THE SESSION YOU WILL HAVE: Completed preliminary drawings will have informed the final piece of work, which will be a mixed medium painting on a prepared canvass. The participants will also have a better understanding on the strengths and limitations of materials they have chosen to work with relating to Tissots work. The subject matter will certainly influence the mood they wish to create, and this will be evidenced in the strength of the composition and corresponding colour choices they make on the day.
