Northern Opera Group - The Wandering Scholar

'The Wandering Scholar is one of the finest comic operas ever written and perfect to introduce new audiences to opera'. David Ward, Artistic Director.

On Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May 2017, Northern Opera Group will be touring Gustav Holst’s riotous comedy, The Wandering Scholar, to audiences in North and West Yorkshire. Inspired by a traditional Mummers’ Play, the company will travel between venues, using only set and props that they can carry around on their journey with them.

Directed by Emma Black, designed by Tiffany Dawson, and conducted by Northern Opera Group’s Artistic Director, David Ward, the opera will be performed by a leading young professional cast.

Following their performance at The Hepworth Wakefield, the tour continues to Leeds City Museum at 2.30pm, followed by Craven Museum, Skipton at 12pm on Sunday 14 May then The Tetley, Leeds at 2.30pm.

The performances are coinciding with this year’s European Opera Days. Taking inspiration from this year’s Opera Days theme of ‘Venues’, Northern Opera Group’s tour will demonstrate that great opera can be performed in all variety of venues.

Free, booking not required.
