Heritage Weekend 2017

Saturday 9 - Sunday 10 September 2017, 10am - 5pm

Heritage Weekend

Join us to explore and celebrate the rich history of industry and culture in our waterfront surroundings, with a series of talks and boat trips along the River Calder.

Guided by Wakefield Historical Society, find out about the features that make the waterways around the gallery unique and significant in the development of the region as we know it today, along with events and innovations that took place across the waterfront’s many mill buildings.

There is also a chance to learn about vessels of historic significance in our neighbouring boatyard, along with exciting new plans for the redevelopment of Rutland Mills.

Combining archive images, factual explanations and anecdotal stories, Wakefield Historical Society’s introductions to the area have been developed through an in-depth research project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This programme coincides with Heritage Open Days, England's largest festival of history and culture, and is made possible through support from the Canal and River Trust and Wakefield Historical Society.
