Fashion School for 11 - 16 year olds

Calling all budding fashion designers.
This Half Term join textile artist Karen Logan to design and make your own fashion masterpiece.
Discover the artworks and garments in our exhibition Disobedient Bodies: J.W. Anderson curates The Hepworth Wakefield and then try out a variety of creative textiles techniques including printing, felt making, sewing and embroidery.
£150 for four sessions, a 15% discount is available for siblings also attending at £127.50 for four sessions. Book online HERE.
FAST FASHION ACTIVITY
Beat the clock in the quick fashion game. Work in small groups to stretch, cut, stuff, stich and distort existing garments to transform yourself into a sculpture. Then use your new creations to experiment with shadows and light to create unusual silhouette art works.
EXPLORING THE GALLERIES
Visit the galleries with Karen to discover our exciting new exhibition Disobedient Bodies: JW Anderson Curates The Hepworth Wakefield. This major exhibition, explores the human form in art, fashion and design and displays sculptures alongside iconic fashion pieces. In the galleries explore the artworks through fun and creative activities including drawing, photography and imagination games.
Inspired by the sculptural and textural works in the galleries construct your own fabric using wet felting technique. Choose your colours and embellishments to make a colourful creation.
Experiment with pleating stitching, tying, folding and try out a variety of fabric manipulation and surface decoration techniques. Make a set of samples for your sketch book and get thinking about ideas for your final design.
Use your drawings, photographs and sketch book ideas to design your own fabric pattern. Experiment with block printing to make a colourful repeat pattern on fabric. Then try out screen printing using stencils and open screen technique to create exciting textural effects.
DESIGNING AND MAKING
Work up a design for your fashion piece influenced by what you have seen/discovered/experimented with across the week. Make your fabulous designs a reality using your new fashion and textiles skills.
Photograph your creations in the inspiring setting of The Hepworth Wakefield.
Put on a display of your experimentations and creative journey in the studio ready to celebrate and share with your family.
£150 for all four sessions, £127.50 for siblings also attending the course.
Participants do not need to be accompanied on this course. Please bring a packed lunch or pocket money to buy lunch in the café.
