Animated Figures

Animator Sheryl Jenkins guides you through a range of animation techniques through which to creating movement in three-dimensional forms. Taking inspiration from Szapocznikow’s abstraction of bodily forms, you will create your own sculptural models using materials including clay, wire, wax and natural materialsand explore ways in which to move them. You will be encouraged to experiment with the abstraction of figurative forms, and consider narrative.

This workshop is suitable for artists with an existing practice wanting to explore animation in their work, or those who are complete beginners.

About the artist

Sheryl Jenkins is a freelance animator and filmmaker.  Her work includes collaborative projects with artists and organisations, educational activities with schools, colleges and universities, arts residencies, and animated content for theatre productions, festivals and television.

Sheryl uses traditional animation techniques including drawn, model/stop motion, and cut out.  She also uses materials such as textiles, photographs, collage, found objects and natural materials in her animated work.
