National Playday

Wednesday 2 August. 11am-4pm. FREE

Join us for a exciting day of making, creating and play to celebrate National Playday.

Playday is the national day for play in the UK, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August. As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives. Playday is coordinated by Play England, Play Wales, Play Scotland and PlayBoard Northern Ireland.

Suitable for families with children aged 2-12yrs.
No booking required, just turn up and play!

PS. Remember to dress for the weather; we will be running activity in all but exceptional conditions.

Test out our new play sculpture made by artist Natalie Finnemore. This has been made for children by children at Sandal Castle and Natalie invites you to get active with art including sculpture building activities throughout the day.

After this, the sculpture goes back to the Portobello community for the summer as part of Soul Portobello Thursdays.

Learning Studios

Design and print your own repeat pattern inspired by the forms, shapes, and lines in the awe-inspiring sculptures of The Hepworth Family Gift. Make yourself a roller printing tool and create a colourful printed artwork to take home.

Visit our Art Pod in the galleries and make something inspired by your favourite pieces of art.

Borrow an Explore & draw bag to discover the artworks in the gallery with your family.
