Celebrate National Playday at The Hepworth Wakefield and get creative as a family while you explore the galleries and garden. Just turn up and play!

Garden Play
Stack, build, experiment, draw and imagine with your family in the open air.

What’s in our Garden?
Pick up an activity sketchbook to discover the birds, mini-beasts and plants in our garden.

Fermat’s Spiral
Explore an interactive installation inspired by Fan Construction by Halima Cassell – one of the sculptures in our garden.

River of Belonging Performance
Local community groups Star Bereavement and CoActive are working together to create a very special performance which anyone of any physical ability can learn and join in with.

Drawing Garden
After you’ve explored our garden visit the learning studios to step into a large map of the garden and start drawing!

Art Pod
Join us at the Art Pod to make your own artwork inspired by what you see.

Explore & Draw Stations
Borrow looking tools, handling objects and drawing materials to explore the galleries.

WET WEATHER 

If its a rainy day we will have plenty of activities indoors including Art Pod in the galleries, Play Space in the auditorium, Drawing garden workshop in the learning studios. Or pick up an Explore & draw kit and ‘What’s in our garden’ activity sheet from the welcome desk. Our picnic area will be open with plenty of space to eat a packed lunch in the dry.

Indoor activities are free with an exhibition ticket. On Wed 2 Aug, exhibition entry is £6. FREE for Members, Wakefield District residents and under 18s

 

 

 

USEFUL INFORMATION

Play Day welcomes children of all ages. Children must be accompanied at all times. Remember to dress suitably for all weather conditions!

WHERE TO EAT

Our café serves a special menu for children or bring a packed lunch to enjoy in our indoor picnic area or out in the garden. The Garden Café will be open serving hot and cold drinks, toasted sandwiches, cakes and ice cream.

FACILITIES

The Hepworth Wakefield is accessible, has baby changing facilities and plenty of room for buggies and pushchairs. For further access information can be found here.
