THE HEPWORTH WAKEFIELD IS SHORTLISTED FOR MAJOR TOURISM AWARD
The Hepworth Wakefield is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ in the biggest tourism awards in the UK, the White Rose Awards. Winners will be announced on November 11 at New Dock Hall near the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The winners of each category will also be entered into next year’s VisitEngland national tourism award.
David Liddiment, Chair of The Hepworth Wakefield Trust said: “The Hepworth Wakefield continues to work ambitiously and put Wakefield on the national and international map. We are proud ambassadors for the region, working with our partners to further enhance Yorkshire as a world-class cultural destination through joint initiatives such as the ‘Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle’.”
He continued: “To be shortlisted among such strong contenders within this category is a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of the team and builds on the success of last year, winning the White Rose Award 2012 for ‘Arts & Culture’.”
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Competition this year was so fierce that every business making it to the shortlist should consider it a huge achievement in itself as they have had to contend with some real quality competition. It's always a close run thing, but there's every chance they could go on and win one of these prestigious White Rose Awards."
Since opening in May 2011 The Hepworth Wakefield has welcome 850,000 visitors, five times the original target of 150,000 visitors for the gallery. To celebrate its second year of opening the gallery announced the opening of a major new contemporary art space in the former Caddies Wainwright Mill, adjacent to the gallery, to open later this summer.
