The Black Cloud

Artists Heather and Ivan Morison have created a new work to mark the launch of The Hepworth Wakefield. It takes the form of an outdoor shelter for people to gather, relax, entertain and enjoy the waterfront location. The Black Cloud has been repositioned and modified in response to the architectural and industrial backdrop of The Hepworth Wakefield. The Morisons create powerful and sensory works that explore architecture and aspects of escape and refuge. Their work is an active engagement with materials, histories and sites.

The Black Cloud was originally commissioned by Situations at the University of the West of England for Victoria Park, Bristol in 2009. Supported by Art in Yorkshire.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO USE THE BLACK CLOUD?

The Black Cloud takes its shape and purpose from Amazonian dwellings used by the Yanomamo tribe for performances, discussion and play. To reflect this, THW would like to invite you to use The Black Cloud in a similar way. The sculpture provides basic shelter and a platform for activities, and we would like to invite local talent and imagination to animate this back-to-basics structure. Could you, your group, your band, your circle of friends, your class, use The Black Cloud?

Activities in The Black Cloud are run by our local communities and do not form part of The Hepworth Wakefield's public programme
